Bach – Holliger – Yun – Beethoven

J. S. Bach: Ricercar a 6 from The Musical Offering, BWV 1079
Heinz Holliger: Lebenslinien [Lifelines] (2021)
Isang Yun: Shao Yang Yin (1966)
Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 29 in B flat major, Op. 106 (‘Hammerklavier’) (1817/18)

Tomoki Park (piano)

Tomoki Park has decided to change his programme at short notice. Instead of Max Reger’s Bach Variations, he will play Beethoven’s ‘Grand Sonata for the Hammerklavier’ in B flat major, Op. 106. Tomoki Park contrasts the Ricercar a 6 from the ‘Musical Offering’ with Heinz Holliger’s piano work Lebenslinien (2021), which was inspired by the biography of the great musician Clara Haskil. The ‘Hammerklavier Sonata’ is preceded by Yun’s Shao Yang Yin (1968), which was commissioned by the Basel musician and patron Antoinette Vischer.

Various treatments of the “single” tone: splitting the tone into a flat surface in Nicolaus A.
